From old school hard to newschool friendly

Since Death by Game Show released a fair amount has been made of its difficulty, frustration and learning curve.

We listened to the vocal majority who demand challenge and gratification via skill. The problem being, the most vocal aren’t supporting the game.

With this in mind, it’s time to forget our own goals and look at what can become of this game if the challenge is re-shaped.

What this means is increased rewards, reduced early challenge, and refined freedom.

Expect more information soon as our next patch is defined and fully announced.

Huge train on Steamgifts that is helping us get noticed

In what has been a turbulent eight months since release and a journey where we’ve met a lot of wonderful people, Tchii and LavaU have broken the mold.

Not only are they streaming the game regularly but Tchii has started a fantastic Steamgifts train which is both immense in scale and generosity.

You can find the train here.

We just want to thank Tchii and the LavaU group for their support.

We also want to thank everyone who has played the game, provided feedback and helped us grow.

Please support us by checking out the trailer and letting us know your thoughts.

As a little thank you, if we can reach 10,000 wishlists the game will go on a week long 60% sale in October.

A Thank You to the Steam Community

To all we have spoken to on Steam, to those who have supported the game via YouTube, Twitch and websites, we thank you.

We’ve learned a lot since the launch of Death by Game Show, including the importance of working with the Steam community.

We did this through Greenlight back when the game was called iLikeMoney, we did this at launch and we’ve done it since leaving our publisher.

We appreciate the support and ask that if you have any ideas on how we can market and build awareness further please get in touch. We need your help.

Thank you.

What next for Death by Game Show

So where next for Death by Game Show?

The truth is, the game hasn’t performed well and Death by Game Show now needs additional fundraising to grow.

Oointah Games are exploring different avenues to take the game to the next level, routes include a Kickstarter campaign.

Our goal since release has always been to make a multiplayer mode, in the mould of Spy Vs Spy and putting the player in a race to the exit rocket. This remains our long-term vision for the game.

Other goals include an Xbox release, the inclusion of bosses and stat customization.

We hope you’ll support us throughout any campaign.

Let us help you not make our mistakes

To all game developers thinking of putting your game on Steam please read the following. Greenlight is hard if done legitimately, promoting and supporting a game once live is harder.

Be wary of joining up with Steam publishers too, we did this a little after getting slammed on Metacritic hoping they would help us showcase the game. It failed, as they turned out to be no more than a give-away group which has no value when trying to promote a game.

So five months after signing up to them and eight months after launch, knowing the mistakes we’ve made we have to go back to the start. Have we learned from our mistakes?  I believe so. However, we’ll never have a fresh start with Death by Game Show.

With this in mind, we’d love to help other developers who want to know ‘what not to do’ when it comes to Steam Greenlight and distribution. If you have any interest in our help please reach out.

Thank you for your time.
